Materials made in Finland
Nousu only uses materials made in Finland. The knitwear and elastics we use are knitted in Orivesi. Since there are no longer any factories in our country that manufacture polyester and cotton yarns, the yarns for the Orivesi knitting mill come from outside our country.
| Yarn |
Manufacturer |
Certificates |
| Polyester 100% (elastic) | Kortex (Turkey) | Oeko-Tex 100 |
| Polyester 100% (knitted) | Kortex (Turkey) | Oeko-Tex 100 |
| Polyester(50%) / eco-cotton(50%) | Selcuk (Turkey) | Oeko-Tex 100, GOTS |
| Organic cotton | Selcuk (Turkey) | Oeko-Tex 100, GOTS |
| Lycra | The Lycra Company (England) | Oeko-Tex 100 |
The yarns mentioned above are made into "raw knits and elastics", which are dyed and processed in Finland / Poland. All chemicals and dyes used in the processing of our clothes are subject to the Öko-Tex standard.
The zippers on Nousu's clothing come from YKK. We would of course use Finnish chains, but unfortunately they are no longer manufactured in our country.
In the "field" of ecology and ethics, Nousu relies on domestic work (selection of raw materials, manufacturing of materials, sewing work, printing work), as well as on the morals of Finnish workers, and our country's legislation (workers, environment).
We are often asked why you don't use such and such a material, because it would be more ecologically sensible... There is a simple answer to that: Because the material the questioner wants is not produced in Finland - but don't worry, we will pass on your wishes.
"In 2016, the knitwear for our sweaters was made from polyester and cotton, in 2019 the cotton changed to eco-cotton, and from 2020 onwards, the polyester has been switched to a recycled version.
Product manufacturing
All our other products except t-shirts are sewn in our own factory in Nokia, the t-shirts are sewn by a subcontractor from Pirkanmaa.
Surplus materials
We are donating surplus materials from our sewing workshop to support open work for people with intellectual disabilities at Nokian Hempankaari.
